Steven LaBrecque, MPH(c)IHPC Student Alliance

IHPC Intern, Federal Policy, 2016

Steven is a second-year naturopathic medical student at Bastyr University in Seattle, Washington. He received his Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience, Psychology, and Biomedical Sciences at Central Michigan University in 2012 while completing his pre-medical studies. After MCAT exams and acceptance from MD schools in the Midwest, he withdrew his applications after a profound realization of America’s “sick care” system.

Instead of attending conventional medical school, Steven moved to Sarasota, Florida to begin a Master of Public Health degree with Michigan State University online while working in a medical clinic full-time. He is passionate about public health practices, health policy, and disease prevention, so the MPH degree was a good fit for him. While completing this graduate program, he discovered naturopathic medicine from a lecture on patient-centered primary care with an emphasis in holistic health promotion. A year later, Steven began naturopathic medical school in 2015. He has a strong interest in naturopathic philosophy, integrative oncology, and neuro-degenerative diseases.

In his free time, Steven enjoys traveling, hiking the Pacific Northwest, mindfulness meditation, and socializing with friends. He is currently a member of the Academy of Integrative Health & Medicine (AIHM), American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP), Oncology Association of Naturopathic Physicians, American Academy of Environmental Medicine, Florida Naturopathic Physicians Association, and Michigan Association of Naturopathic Physicians.
